For this swap ... hand carve a self portrait. This can be just the head, a bust or a full figure. Send your partner something that features that stamp. An envelope, a print, a postcard, an ATC, whatever. The idea is to get motivated and carve a self portrait of yourself. If you have a self portrait already, well, aren't you special? Go ahead and use that one if you like - or try to make a new one that reflects who you are today. Your self portrait can be somewhat abstract but it should be apparent that it's you or at least a human being. If I've left out some detail, please ask and I'll clarify ... And another from here ... If you go to Kozue's photo stream at flickr she sort of demonstrates how she takes a photo and uses photo editing software to turn the image into a carvable black and white. The results are amazing. Here's her photostream | |
