I just got this idea when I sent some mail to one of my artist friends today! I collaged an ATC for her and filled the envelope with some pieces of ephemera for her to collage with on her own!
So, for this swap, you will:
Collage ONE (1) ATC for your partner. This isn't just a sticker on a colored background, this is getting slap-happy with glue and pieces of magazines, old book pages, postage stamps, ticket stubs, bar codes, et cetera. Feel free to add stickers and ink and rubber stamping--just make it a genuine collage with that messy layered feel! Sender's choice, although it would be nice to check your partner's profile for themes that they might find offensive (if someone's not into swearing, don't paste cuss words all over it, that kind of thing).
Put the ATC in an envelope that you've decorated somehow (stickers, markers, swirly pen sketches--it doesn't have to be as detailed as the ATC itself; id est, you don't have to collage the entire envelope, just make it look cheery and interesting in some fashion), just because mail art is fun. The envelope doesn't have to be very big--I used a small notecard envelope for my friend's ATC.
Add some pieces of ephemera--let's say ten (10) usable scraps of some kind that your partner can use in a collage of their own making. Postage stamps, ads or single words you've cut out from a newspaper or magazine, faces/products/pieces of articles from magazines/newspapers, part of a page of an old book (something big enough that'd be useful, not one single tiny word clipped out in 8pt font--at least the size of a postage stamp, preferably larger for page clippings), playing cards or game piece cards (Trivial Pursuit cards would be great for this), a small sheet of stickers, et cetera. Now all your partner has to do is add the glue and the creativity!
Send it off! Make sure to use an extra stamp if your envelope is especially thick or heavy, although given that this is all paper, it probably won't be, and of course, if you're sending US-Canada/Canada-US, double-check the postage rates there.
Okay, that's a lot of explanation, but I hope it's clear! So in sum, decorated envelope with 1 collaged ATC and 10 pieces of ephemera. Don't forget to add a note with at least your SB ID and what swap this is, but feel free to write more (although a letter is NOT required). I've given 2 weeks between sign-up deadline and swap send-out deadline so that you have time to make something nice. In all, this project took me maybe 2 hours of labor for my friend so expect to put in about that much time.
No new kids--you must have AT LEAST FIVE (5) type-3 swaps under your belt and no unexplained 3s in the past three (3) months. Have a well-filled out profile and be a reliable swapper. I'll angel, but I'll also go through profiles with a fine-toothed comb and drop anyone who looks like a flaker. Happy swapping!
